The reason I am so high on Murray for the time being is because star point guard Trae Young has a torn radial collateral ligament in the fifth finger on his left hand, and he will undergo surgery and be out for multiple weeks. This means, for the time being, Dejounte Murray is the starting point guard for the Hawks.
Murray has taken on a big role in the passing game and leading the offense when Trae Young has been off the court this season. Overall, Dejounte Murray is averaging 21.6 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per game, and 5.5 assists per game. Without Young, he is averaging 26.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 9 assists. Back on Sunday, we took Dejounte Murray over 12.5 rebounds + assists against the Magic, and Murray finished with 20 combined rebounds and assists. His line has jumped for this game to 15.5, but I still believe there’s value on the over given his usage rate when Trae Young is not in the game. Murray has floated around this number, averaging 15.3 rebounds and assists when Young has not been in the game for the six times it has happened this season. However, Murray has a very advantageous matchup tonight against the Jazz defense. The Jazz are giving up the most assists to point guards in the NBA per game, allowing 10.69 assists to point guards per game, with the Raptors giving up the second most at 9.99.
