The Cleveland Cavaliers have been horrible against the spread lately, going 0-7. They're heading to Detroit tonight, who have been finally picking up steam with Coach Monte Williams not letting them go quietly into the final stretch of the season.
Detroit is actually 3-0 against the spread lately, and outright won their last game by 10 in Chicago. Mind you, Detroit was a double-digit underdog in that game. One day later, Cleveland was also in Chicago, where they lost in double overtime while being 6-point favorites. Yes, Cleveland has a slightly better NET rating over the last five with -2.4 compared with Detroit's -4.8, but the numbers are too close for such a large spread. Last five games, Cleveland is scoring 112 and giving up 115, while Detroit is scoring 108 and giving up 113.
This will be the fourth matchup between the two this season, Cleveland won the previous three by nine, then by eight, then by seven. This number is going down, not up. With Cleveland's Donavon Mitchell listed as a game time decision with knee soreness, I wouldn't be surprised if this line moved much more if he gets ruled out.
