When I saw the spread in the Wizards game for the first time last night, I thought it was a mistake. The Wizards are a favorite tonight? I can’t even tell you the last time this team was the betting favorite because it’s been so long. Add in the fact that they have yet to win a home game in 2024, and you’ve got one of the weirdest lines of the season…
We already knew that LaMelo Ball and Seth Curry were going to be out for this contest. Tre Mann is a GTD, but Marvin Bagley is once again out for the Wizards tonight. They will be playing small-ball with Kyle Kuzma playing the 5 for a lot of this game. That might actually play to their advantage tonight, as the Hornets are the second worst rebounding team in the NBA.
How did oddsmakers open the Wizards as -3.5 favorites on the spread considering they haven’t won a game at Capital One Arena this year? This is truly one of the weirdest line I’ve seen in the NBA this season. If you really dive into the matchup and if you’ve been watching the Wizards of late, you’d understand that although they aren’t winning, they are playing their best basketball of the season right now, at least offensively.
It’s now or never for the Wizards. They know that if they can’t beat the short-handed Hornets tonight, it could be a while before they break their losing streak. The Wizards hit the road after their game tonight, and face some formidable opponents when they return towards the end of March.
You might not believe me, but the Wizards have their best opportunity of the season to get their first home win of 2024 tonight. Let’s not forget that one of Washington’s nine wins this season came against the Hornets back in November. Considering they’re the betting favorite tonight, I’d be willing to bet they finally get their tenth win of the season against the short-handed Hornets at home tonight. Give the Wizards one more chance before we officially ban them for the rest of the season.
