Dallas Mavericks vs. Boston Celtics Game 2 Prediction
After getting smoked for the majority of Game 1 as 6.5-point underdogs, I was surprised to see the Mavericks open up at nearly the same number at +7.5 for Game 2. After catching some steam, Luka and the Mavs are now sitting at the same number they were in Game 1. After getting blown out the other night, the Celtics look like the easiest bet on the board laying the same number from Game 1…
Luka didn’t take over the game like I thought he would the other night. It was Kyrie who was leading the charge, but he shot 31% from the field and 0-5 from three. It was clear that the Boston crowd was getting to the Mavs star point guard in the first game of this series. After a poor shooting performance, I’m expecting the offense to run through Luka in Game 2, which should give the Mavs an advantage.
The Celtics had the biggest lead after one quarter in NBA Finals history the other night. They were up 37-20 after one of the greatest starts to an NBA Finals game I’ve ever seen. Then the Mavs started to heat up, bringing the game to within 8 points before the Celtics pulled away again. I liked what I saw out of the Mavericks after the first quarter, and if Kyrie didn’t have one of his worst shooting performances in recent history, the Mavs could’ve stolen Game 1 from the Celtics.
Jason Kidd has made some great adjustments this postseason after the first game of the series. I’m not expecting anything different tonight. Instead, I’m leaning into Kidd’s second game adjustments, and backing the Mavericks to cover in Game 2. I love the fact that they are getting the same amount of points on the spread that they were when they got “blown out” on Friday, but in reality, that game was closer than the final score depicted.
