Pacers vs. Cavaliers Prediction
The injury report is troubling for the Cavaliers. Darius Garland has a toe injury and has missed three consecutive games. He hasn’t played since April 23. Garland didn’t participate in the portion of shoot-around open to the media today, but was jogging on a treadmill in a workout room besides the court. Evan Mobley sprained his left ankle on Sunday and De’Andre Hunter dislocated his right thumb in Game 1. Both players weren’t seen in shoot-around open to the media.
Ty Jerome will benefit, especially if Garland is out. In Game 1 without Garland, Jerome played 29 minutes and took 20 shots from the field. The Cavaliers guard had 21 points and eight assists. Against the Heat in the two games without Garland in Round 1, Jerome had 13 points and 11 assists and 18 points and five assists in only 22 and 21 minutes due to blowouts.
Even with Garland in Game 1 against the Heat, Jerome had 28 points and three assists.
Jerome had a 29.5% usage rate in Game 1 and an average usage rate of 27.6% without Garland in the playoffs. When he’s on the floor, the ball is in his hands and he’s aggressive and it bodes well in this fast-paced game. In 121 postseason minutes, Jerome has taken 62 shots from the field and gone to the foul line 18 times.
In nine games without Garland this season, Jerome has gone over the 19.5 points+assists line every time, and is averaging 26.1 points+assists in those games. Jerome has gone over the prop in eight of the last nine games. If Garland is ruled out, the line will increase. Even if Garland plays, the Cavaliers could be short-handed and need Jerome’s offense. There’s also a chance Garland isn’t able to play full minutes, which will give Jerome more opportunities without increasing his pregame line.
