Knicks vs. Celtics Prediction: Can Derrick White Lift Boston in Game 2 Bounce Back?

The Celtics entered the Eastern Conference semifinals as -800 favorites to win the series and lost Game 1 to the Knicks in overtime, 108-105. The Celtics had a 20-point lead in the second half. Kristaps Porzingis only played 13 minutes due to illness.

Boston shoots a lot of three-pointers and they tend to hit them. In the regular season against the Knicks over four games, Boston averaged 21 three-pointers. The efficiency wasn’t there on Monday. The Celtics shot 15 of 60 from three-point range in Game 1. The Celtics took 49 shots in the second half and overtime, with 37 coming from behind the arc.

Knicks vs. Celtics Prediction

In Game 1 against the Knicks, White played 44 minutes, including 39 in regulation. He took 18 shots from the field and only hit six. White shot 5-for-16 (31.6%) from three-point range. The Celtics guard shot 44.2% from the field in the regular season, including 38.4% on three-pointers.

Even with a poor shooting game, he scored 19 points. Against the Knicks in the regular season, White scored 14, 19, 17 and 24 points. There were a lot of open looks for White on Monday, and if the Knicks continue to leave him open, he will shoot better.

White had 11 rebounds in Game 1, which is way above his season average of 4.5. Still, White had 19 rebound chances and as we saw in the regular season, the matchup against the Knicks allowed him to get more rebounds due to Jrue Holiday guarding Jalen Brunson most of the time. Against the Knicks this season, White has had 11, eight, nine, three and three rebounds. The games with three rebounds came in 25 and 27 minutes, and that won’t happen again unless it’s a blowout. In the other three games, White had 12, 18 and 19 rebound chances for an average of 16.3.

In five games against the Knicks this season, White has 27, 20, 28, 22 and 30 points + rebounds. White was third on the team in field goal attempts in Game 1, with only Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown having more. Expect similar volume with better shooting, and even if the rebounds decline, White will score enough to go over this prop.

White is going to play a lot of minutes in the postseason and is a critical part of the Celtics success. In the three close games against the Magic in the first round, White played 38, 40 and 39 minutes.
