The Celtics need to win three straight games to keep their season alive, and they need to do it without Jayson Tatum after he tore his Achilles tendon the final minutes of Game 4 and had surgery on Monday.
The Knicks won that critical game, 121-113, and are one win away from reaching the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2000. Boston will attempt to become the 14th team to comeback from a 3-1 deficit at home on Wednesday night.

Knicks vs. Celtics Game 5 Prediction
Boston has played one game this postseason without Jayson Tatum in Game 2 of the first round against the Magic and won, 109-100. It will be a difficult task against the Knicks, who won the first two games in Boston. Tatum averaged 25 points, 11.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists, while averaging 41.5 minutes and 22.5 shots per game.
It will take several Celtics to help overcome the loss of Tatum, including Derrick White. The Celtics guard is averaging 19.8 points on 14.3 shots per game. White has scored 19, 20, 17 and 23 points in the series. He went over the 18.5 points line in the first two games despite shooting 6-for-18 and 6-for-17 from the field.
White only scored 17 in Game 3 due to only playing 34 minutes. He has played at least 40 minutes in the other three games, including 44 in Game 4. Without Tatum on the floor this season, White sees an increase in usage of 3.4%.
In nine games without Tatum this season, White is averaging 20.3 points per game and over the 18.5 points line in five of them. This game is different due to the magnitude and minutes.
White will see a lot of volume and even if he isn’t as efficient as the last two games when he shot 12-for-22 from the field, he can still go over the points prop. In 10 of his last 13 games with at least 16 shots, he has scored at least 19 points. He has averaged 11 three-point attempts in the series and averaged 4.3 three-pointers made. The Celtics will need a big game from White to keep the season going.
