Pacers vs. Thunder Game 1 Prediction
The Thunder made a change to the starting lineup in Game 1 sending Isaiah Hartenstein to the bench and going smaller with Cason Wallace in the starting lineup. The Thunder led 57-45 at the half and the lead was as big as 15 points. While the Thunder didn’t trail at all until Haliburton’s final shot, rebounding was a problem.
The Pacers outrebounded the Thunder by 17. Indiana had 13 offensive rebounds. The Pacers lost the battle on the glass to the Knicks in five of six games, averaged 36.3 rebounds per game and struggled to stop big men from getting rebounds all season. The Thunder had a 52.9% rebounding rate with Hartenstein on the floor and 38.4% without him.
Even if Hartenstein comes off the bench again in Game 2, he’s likely to see an increase in minutes, especially if the Thunder are losing the battle on the boards. Hartenstein played 17 minutes and had nine points and nine rebounds. He had 12 rebound chances.
In the postseason, Hartenstein is averaging 15.8 rebound chances in 23.4 minutes per game. Not only does Hartenstein help with rebounds, he’s great at setting screens and opening up shots for teammates. He’s also an excellent passer and is adept at hitting the short floater. Wallace was minus-13 and Hartenstein +2 in Game 1. There’s a strong chance Hartenstein sees 20-25 minutes and he already showed on Thursday he can still get eight rebounds in limited minutes.
