Thunder vs. Pacers Prediction: Can T.J. McConnell Spark Pacers at Home in Game 3?

After losing Game 1 by one point in the final second, the Thunder bounced back in Game 2 to even the series at one with a 123-107 win over the Pacers. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 34 points, eight assists and five rebounds, Alex Caruso scored 20 off the bench and Jalen Williams added 19 points for the Thunder.

Tyrese Haliburton had another quiet game and turned the ball over five times. He only scored five points through three quarters before scoring 12 in the fourth quarter. The Pacers will host a NBA Finals game for the first time in 25 years on Wednesday night. Indiana is 4-0 in the postseason following a loss, and have won 11 straight games following a double-digit loss. Can they do it again? If so, they'll need role players like T.J. McConnell to step up in a big way at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in this Thunder vs. Pacers Game 3.

Thunder vs. Pacers Game 3 Prediction

It’s risky to take a player’s over when the minutes are limited. If a player is averaging 17.5 minutes per game, the natural reaction is to shy away from an over unless the line is extremely low. T.J. McConnell is an outlier.

The Pacers guard has shown all season he doesn’t need a lot of minutes to be productive. When he’s on the floor, he’s heavily involved in the offense. He pushes the pace, sets up teammates for good shots and is aggressive taking shots. In the postseason, McConnell is averaging 8.5 points and four assists in 16.3 minutes per game.

In Game 1 against the Thunder, McConnell played 17 minutes and had nine points and four assists on 4-for-6 from the field. He played 18 minutes in Game 2 and had 11 points and six assists on 5-for-7 from the floor. McConnell hit one three-pointer in each game and tends to score in the paint. He’s averaging nine potential assists per game in the series.

In the regular season against the Thunder, McConnell had eight points and three assists in 13 minutes and 13 points and three assists in 19 minutes. With the Pacers back home, the role players tend to play better and shoot more efficiently. At home in the postseason, McConnell is averaging 10.1 points, 4.4 assists and shooting 54.9% from the field.

McConnell has gone over this line in six of the last eight games and this matchup sets up well for him to potentially see a couple of more minutes.
