3 Minute ReadRockets vs. Lakers Prediction: Can Kevin Durant, Rockets Bounce Back in Game 3?
The Houston Rockets host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight in a pivotal Game 3 at Toyota Center, and I’m backing Houston to respond in a big way.
This feels like a classic buy-low spot.
Yes, the Rockets have been awful offensively through two games. There’s no sugarcoating it. But that’s exactly why I like them here.

Lakers vs. Rockets Prediction Game 3
At some point, the offensive underperformance has to correct, and if there’s a spot for it to happen, it’s back home.
Role players shoot better at home. That matters a lot for a young Rockets team built around complementary pieces.
Jabari Smith Jr., Reed Sheppard, Josh Okogie, Tari Eason. Those guys have to be the oxygen for this offense, and I expect a major bounce back in their own building.
That alone changes the math of this game.
But the biggest piece is Alperen Sengun.
He was nowhere near himself in the first two games, and I have a hard time believing an All-Star caliber player continues looking that ineffective. He doesn’t need to dominate, he just needs to be better, and “better” likely goes a long way.
If Sengun starts punishing doubles and facilitating properly, Houston’s offense looks entirely different.
And I think Ime Udoka will have counters ready.
The Lakers have done a great job schematically against a predictable Houston offense, but playoff series evolve. Adjustments happen. Houston now gets the benefit of two games of data plus home court to respond.
That matters.
And while a lot of the focus is on Houston’s struggles, the Lakers defense may also be playing a little over its skis.
They’ve been excellent, but some of that is fueled by Houston missing shots it normally makes. That tends to regress.
If Houston’s supporting cast simply hits at a normal rate, this spread starts looking short.
Then there’s the situational angle.
This is essentially a must-win. Down 0-2, the Rockets know this is the swing game of the series.
You typically get max urgency in these spots, especially from younger teams at home.
And I expect the building to be a factor.
Toyota Center should be electric, and I think that energy shows up defensively too. Transition opportunities off turnovers could fuel easy points, which is something Houston badly needs.

I’m not expecting a grind.
I’m expecting Houston to finally break the seal offensively, get contributions from the role players, and play with desperation.
That’s a recipe to not only win, but cover.
