The Spurs are in a perfect bounce-back spot tonight after dropping Game 1, and historically, this is one of the strongest playoff angles you’ll find.
I’m backing San Antonio to respond in a big way.
Home favorites coming off a Game 1 loss have consistently been profitable in the playoffs, but this specific situation is even stronger. Teams returning home for Game 2 after losing Game 1 as favorites of seven points or more are covering at nearly a 70% clip historically.

Timberwolves vs. Spurs Game 2
And honestly, the matchup backs it up.
Minnesota stole Game 1, but the Wolves still looked extremely shaky offensively for most of the night. Outside of one fourth-quarter burst fueled by small-ball adjustments, the offense was stuck in mud.
Anthony Edwards still doesn’t look fully healthy, and that matters massively against a Spurs defense that can completely suffocate teams when locked in.
If you remove Minnesota’s late run in Game 1, they were pacing for under 95 total points for most of the game.
That’s not sustainable against a Spurs team that knows this is basically a must-win spot before the series shifts.
The biggest thing here is San Antonio’s ceiling.
When the Spurs win, they tend to bury teams.
This wasn’t a team grinding out close victories during the season. Over a third of their wins came by 15 or more points, and more than 20% came by 20-plus. Once they build separation, they can avalanche opponents quickly.
And Minnesota has shown all year that when things go sideways, they completely unravel.
Seven of the Timberwolves’ double-digit losses this season turned into 20-point blowouts because their offense simply cannot function consistently when Edwards isn’t fully carrying the load.
That’s where this spread starts to make sense.
The Spurs should have cleaner offensive execution tonight, especially at home where their role players shoot significantly better. San Antonio also has the ability to dictate pace and force Minnesota into uncomfortable half-court possessions over and over again.
If the Spurs get ahead early, this could snowball quickly.
And unlike regular season games, playoff desperation spots tend to create extreme outcomes. Teams either respond with urgency or the series completely slips away.
I expect San Antonio to come out with playoff-level intensity from the opening tip.
This feels like a statement game from a team that knows it let one get away in Game 1 and now has its back against the wall.
