Spurs vs. Hawks Prediction
Veesaar slipped deeper in the draft than his tools suggested, but the 7-footer gives Atlanta real size, touch and defensive range. He joins a Hawks group that also includes 2026 lottery pick Kingston Flemings, second-year forward Asa Newell and guards RayJ Dennis and Kobe Johnson. Newell’s extra year of professional experience matters in this setting, especially in a matchup where physicality and decision-making can swing an early Summer League game.
San Antonio’s roster has interesting names, including Carter Bryant, Jayden Quaintance, Tarris Reed Jr., Ja’Kobi Gillespie, Maliq Brown and Miles Kelly. The Spurs have frontcourt length and enough guard play to compete, but their early California Classic performances showed the usual Summer League problems: inconsistent scoring stretches, uneven spacing and long possessions when the first action gets stopped.
Atlanta’s edge is that its best pieces should translate more cleanly in this format. Veesaar can simplify the game as a screen-and-dive big, Newell gives the Hawks a returning forward with more comfort in pro spacing, and Flemings adds the high-end shot creation needed to separate late. The Hawks are laying more than a bucket, but their roster construction looks more balanced.

Atlanta is the play because its roster has the better blend of size, creation and early Summer League translatability. Veesaar’s ability to impact the paint on both ends gives the Hawks a cleaner frontcourt edge, while Newell and Flemings should provide enough scoring support to separate from a Spurs group still searching for stable offensive rhythm.
