The Celtics and Raptors meet in NBA Summer League with both teams looking beyond the final score and into the next stage of roster building. Boston is focused on finding which young players can matter after a turbulent offseason, while Toronto is trying to identify developmental pieces who can fit around its new-look core.
Summer League is always volatile, but this matchup has more franchise context than a typical July game. The Celtics are reshaping after the Jaylen Brown trade fallout and the failed Giannis Antetokounmpo pursuit, while the Raptors have a cleaner emotional lift after landing Kawhi and pushing back toward win-now relevance.

Celtics vs. Raptors Prediction
Hugo Gonzalez is the headline player to watch for Boston. The Celtics refused to include him in major trade talks involving Brown or Giannis, which shows how much they value his long-term upside. Summer League now becomes his chance to justify that internal confidence, especially if Boston gives him a real on-ball role instead of asking him to simply defend, cut and play around others.
The pressure on Gonzalez is also tied to Boston’s broader uncertainty. The Celtics lost Brown, added Mitchell Robinson and still have to figure out what this new version of the roster looks like around Jayson Tatum. Summer League will not answer those questions, but a strong Gonzalez showing would at least give Boston another developmental win after an offseason that created more chemistry concerns than clarity.
Toronto’s side is more intriguing because Collin Murray-Boyles has a clearer path to matter. The Raptors are now trying to build around Kawhi, Barnes and RJ Barrett, and Murray-Boyles gives them a young frontcourt piece with physicality, defensive range and connective upside. If he can rebound, defend multiple spots and finish through contact, he profiles as exactly the kind of role player Toronto will need around its stars.
The Raptors also enter with better franchise momentum. The Kawhi trade changed the energy around the organization, and Summer League gives the young roster a chance to play into that optimism. Boston may have individual talent, but Toronto has the more stable summer story, a stronger developmental throughline and a roster that should play with more purpose after the offseason reset.
Celtics vs. Raptors Best Bet
- Pick: Raptors Moneyline (-110) Click here to get the best odds at DraftKings Sportsbook
Back the Raptors moneyline at -110. Boston has the Gonzalez storyline and enough young talent to make this competitive, but Toronto has the cleaner setup, stronger momentum and a key player in Murray-Boyles who fits the franchise’s new direction. In a near pick’em Summer League opener, the Raptors are the sharper side.
