DePaul vs. Butler Prediction

The Butler Bulldogs vs. the DePaul Blue Demons will duel things out on Wednesday night in Chicago, Illinois, for a Big East affair. You will not see either of these teams in the March madness tournament, but they will both try and close their seasons strong over the next couple of weeks.

Butler enters play playing to the tune of a 13-15 record. Head coach Thad Matta is in his first year at Butler, and it will take a few years for him to be able to bring in his guys and get this program back to where it should be. Butler has had some pretty good years over the last decade, but they have struggled the last few seasons. The star of this team is sophomore guard Jayden Taylor who leads the team in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game. The Bulldogs have four starters that average in double figures.

DePaul, meanwhile, counties to struggle. They bring in a record of 9-18, which is the second-worst record in the Big East only in front of Georgetown. It has been a long time since DePaul has had a winning team. This a program that has had just one winning season since 2007. The star of the team this year is senior guard Umoja Gibson who is averaging a team-high 16.2 points per game. Fellow senior Javan Johnson has also been solid this year, putting up 14.9 points per game. DePaul comes into play tonight as a two-point favorite.

I will be backing the Blue Demons on the moneyline tonight. Any time you see a 9-18 team as a favorite, it is probably for a reason, and I will trust the line tonight. DePaul has not won a game since January 18th, when they beat Xavier at home. I believe they will snap their losing streak tonight and take care of business against a below-average Butler team. Lastly, Butler has really struggled on the road going just 2-8 away from home this season.
