This is a significant game for North Carolina, who is still in pursuit of their first quad-one win this season. They are looking to avoid being the first number-one pre-season team to miss the tournament. UNC went on a magical run last season as a No. 8 seed and made it all the way to the national championship, where Kansas beat them.
The reason that they began the year ranked number one was due to the fact they returned every four of their five starters from that team and their sixth man. Things simply have not gone their way this season, but with a win tonight, they likely put themselves back into the bracket.
Virginia, meanwhile, comes into this game ranked No. 6 in the nation but that ranking will go down regardless of tonight’s result due to their loss at Boston College this week. The loss was a bad one, as they went down 63-48. Entering the week, Virginia was seen as the final two seeds, and with just a couple of weeks until Selection Sunday, they will try to close their season strong. North Carolina comes into this game tonight as a four-point favorite.Â
This is a UNC line all the way; when you see an unranked team playing for their season as a four-point favorite against the No. 6 team in the nation, it is probably for a reason. I still believe that this UNC team has the talent, and I think that they match up very well with Virginia tonight. They should have a significant advantage in the paint and I love the fact that we are getting the Heels at home for what should be an electric atmosphere.
