Providence vs. Xavier Prediction

The Xavier Musketeers vs. the Providence Friars will duel things out from Amica Mutual Pavilion in Rhode Island Wednesday night for a pivotal Big West matchup. The winner of this game will move to No. two in the conference, and this game has significant importance for both teams' March Madness resume.

The Musketeers have turned in a strong season under first-year head coach Sean Miller. Miller has gotten the best out of his roster this year, making them a legitimate threat out of the Big East. Xavier has been led by senior guard Souley Boum who is turning in a career year. Boum comes into this game averaging 16.5 points per game to lead the team. The first time these two teams played was an instant classic that ended with a Xavier win in overtime.

Providence missed a game-winning three as time ran out. Providence, meanwhile, has been the best home team in college hoops this year, going a perfect 15-0 on their home floor. The Friars have a well-balanced attack, and they are seen as one of the more underrated teams in college basketball. They are led by head coach Ed Cooley who won national coach of the year a season ago. Kentucky transfer Bryce Hopkins has led the Friars in scoring averaging 16.4 points per game.

I am all over the Friars tonight. I do not care if this play is public or square because it is going to win and win somewhat easily in my eyes. If it’s not broken, don’t fix it, and that is the case with taking Providence at home this season. Providence will play this game with a chip on their shoulder tonight after what happened the first time these two teams played. Providence matches up very well with Xavier, and I expect them to take care of business tonight on their home floor.
