The Texas Tech Red Raiders and the West Virginia Mountaineers will duel things out from Kansas City, Missouri, as the Big 12 Conference Tournament tips off tonight. The Big 12 was the best conference in the nation this year, as they are estimated to have seven or eight teams get at large bids. Let's break down my best college basketball bet tonight.

West Virginia vs. Texas Tech Prediction

This West Virginia team is one of those teams that is seen as a March Madness tournament team at the moment. The Mountaineers went 18-13 overall this year and 7-11 in Conference play. In most leagues, 7-11 would not get you an at-large bid, but that proves this Big 12 conference's depth.

Bob Huggins has done an outstanding job with this team, as he has gotten the best out of his roster all season long. Senior guard Erik Stevenson leads the Mountaineers in scoring this year, averaging 15.5 points per game.

Meanwhile, it has been a forgettable year for the Red Raiders, and things got even worse this week. The team suspended head coach Mark Adams for a comment that he made to a player. Tech will likely have to win the conference tournament if they want to get into the big dance. The Red Raiders did pick up some key wins at the back end of the year, including a road win over West Virginia, but their early season struggles will be the reason that they do not make the tournament this year. The star of this team has been senior Kevin Obanor, who leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.4 points per game. If Tech has any chance to go on a run in this tournament, they will need Obanor to lead the way.

I am going to back West Virginia tonight and do something that I do not often do. I am going to take them on an alternate spread at -2 (-145). Tech has played a lot of close games this year, and I think that we see another tightly contested game early, but I do think that WVU will ultimately do enough to get this win tonight. There are a lot of things going in with the Tech program right now, and this game means much more to WVU than it does to Tech. I like the Mountaineers to pull off this win tonight!
