Maryland vs West Virginia Prediction

Maryland turned in a successful season after missing out on the Tournament a season ago. The Terps hired former Seton Hall head coach Kevin Willard who has done a great job with this team and has them back in the big dance.

Maryland went 21-12 overall, but their splits were as crazy as any team in college hoops. Maryland went 16-1 on their home floor, but they struggled away from home, going just 2-9 on the road. That is something to note entering the tournament, and it will be interesting to see how the Terps play at a neutral site game.

West Virginia, meanwhile, is back in the big dance led by hall-of-fame head coach Bob Huggins. When it comes to the best coaches in the tournament, Huggins is right up there. This is not an extremely talented team, but they play hard and grind out wins. The Mountaineers went 19-14 overall and 7-11 in a competitive Big 12 Conference.

There is little debate that the Big 12 was the best conference in college hoops this year. West Virginia proved that they could clash with the best of them and be competitive against some of the best teams in the game. Similar to Maryland, West Virginia really struggled on the road this year, going 3-8 away from home. The Mountaineers enter this game as a two-and-a-half-point favorite.

I am going to back another dog and ride the Terps on the money line here. I think that a lot of people are overreacting to Maryland’s poor road record. First of all, this is not a road game, and second of all, West Virginia played just as poorly away from home, winning just three road games.

Maryland brings a ton of experience into this game, especially at the guard position. Senior guard Jahmir Young will be the best player on the court in this game.
