The Southeast Missouri State RedHawks and the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Islanders will duel things out on Tuesday night as the two teams try to keep their seasons alive. Both of these teams won their conference tournaments, and now they hope to stay around to play Alabama on Thursday in the 1st Round of the NCAA Tournament. Here is my pick for this First Four matchup to kick off March Madness.

Corpus Christi being here should not be a surprise, as they were the best team in their conference all season long. However, South East Missouri State (SEMO) being here surprises many, as they finished towards the middle of the pack during the regular season. However, SEMO did not stop from going on a special run in the conference tournament. They hope they can build off that momentum and win tonight’s game.

SEMO will have the most talented player on the court tonight in the form of Phillip Russell. The sophomore guard led the team in scoring, averaging 18.2 points per game. Corpus Christi will have to be well prepared for the young guard, or it could be a long night for them.

Senior guard Trevian Tennyson leads Texas A&M CC. Tennyson turned in a great season, pacing the team with 15.7 points per game. Corpus Christi comes into this game tonight as a short 3.5-point favorite. 

I will back the favorite but do something I rarely do and take them on an alternate spread at -2. I expect this to be an extremely close game throughout, but I trust the more experienced team to take care of business.

SEMO has been playing great basketball as of late, but I think they were playing above their abilities in the tournament, and after a few off days, I expect them to come back to life in this spot and regress. Corpus Christi has three big-time scorers that can take over a game whenever and have experience doing it. Let’s tip off the tourney with a winner!
