There is a lot of hype surrounding this Syracuse team in Adrian Autry’s first season as the head coach of the Orange. This team lost Jesse Edwards and Joe Girard in the portal, but they’ve added some pieces as well. Will the Orange take flight like Duke and UNC did after their legendary coaches stepped down, or will Canisius show some heart and hang around in this contest tonight?

Canisius vs. Syracuse Prediction
I am very excited to see how this Syracuse team performs in their first season without Coach Boeheim in almost 50 years. They grinded-out an 11 point win against New Hampshire in their first game of the season, but it wasn’t pretty. They should have won that game by 20+ points…
This Canisius team might not look like anything special on paper, but let’s take a look at what they did at the end of last season. This team struggled for the majority of 2022 before getting hot at the tail-end of the season. They won five of their last seven games of the year, with significant improvements on the defensive side of the ball.
Tahj Staveskie’s freshman breakout season helped elevate the Golden Griffins at the end of last season. Expect the 2022 MAAC All-Rookie selection to look even better in his second season in the Golden Griffins’ backcourt. This team returns eight players who got minutes last season, and will be looking to build on their momentum from 2022.
This Canisius team is a pest on defense. They are going to make it a “living Hell” for Syracuse bringing the ball up. The way this defense locked in at the end of last season gives me confidence to back them on the road against a much better opponent on paper. While Syracuse continues to figure out life after Boeheim, continue to fade the Orange until they show out. This couldn’t cover against New Hampshire, and will now welcome in a much better Canisius team to the Carrier Dome.
Only 9% of bets and 20% of the handle are currently backing the Griffins to cover tonight (on Draftkings). Fade the public and the Orange, a team that everyone is high on with their new group of transfers, but until we see them click on the court, I’m going to continue to fade the hype surrounding this program.
