Texas A&M vs. Virginia Prediction
This isn’t your typical unranked home favorite system play. The Aggies will probably be without star guard Tyrece Radford and forward Henry Coleman once again tonight. With that news, this spread makes a little more sense, but I still like the Cavaliers in this spot whether Radford or Coleman play or not.
The Aggies were able to scrape out a win against Iowa State without their two stars earlier this week. They cannot keep getting away with it, and I’d be shocked if they are able to stay competitive against this pesky UVA defense. Buzz Williams struggled against UVA in his coaching career in Blacksburg, going 3-7 against UVA in his tenure.
UVA is going to win this game with their defense. If the Aggies are without Radford, they will struggle to protect the basketball against this scrappy defense. Tony Bennett knows how to stifle this Aggies offense; he did it for years against Buzz Williams in Blacksburg.
We saw this UVA defense lock in against West Virginia last week, holding the Mountaineers to 54 points. With a week to prepare for a Buzz Williams offense the Cavaliers are very familiar with, UVA has a significant edge in this contest, especially if Radford and Coleman are out.
I typically don’t like buying bad news, but in this case against UVA’s stifling defense, I’m willing to lean into this angle. The Aggies will struggle to score tonight, bet the Cavaliers on the moneyline to stay perfect at home this season.
