USC vs. Gonzaga Prediction
Luckily for our viewing pleasure, my favorite play just so happens to be in the best game of the day. Gonzaga and USC are set to face off in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Zags are 3.5 point favorites against Boogie Ellis and the Trojans.
I love USC in this spot. Gonzaga might be ranked and have a better record than the Trojans, but the talent discrepancy isn’t as big as you’d think. USC’s roster is stacked this year; the only reason they aren’t ranked is because of a bad early season loss to UC Irvine.
This USC team has shown a lot of growth since that loss to the Anteaters, and although we won’t be seeing Bronny James on the floor tonight, this team has plenty of talent to keep up with Graham Ike and the Zags.
The Trojans match up very well with Gonzaga, hence the short spread at a neutral site. Graham Ike and Ben Gregg bring some size to the Gonzaga frontcourt, but they aren’t the toughest bigs in the paint. USC brought in WSU transfer DJ Rodman to help defend inside, along with Joshua Morgan and 7’1” sophomore Vincent Iwuchukwu. These two gentlemen should do just find against Ike and Gregg.
Gonzaga is one of the slowest teams in the country. Mark Few has reloaded his roster with some solid transfers, but this USC roster is just as good, if not better. I’m willing to bet USC’s elite duo of Boogie Ellis and Isaiah Collier become too much to handle for Ryan Nembhard and Gonzaga.
The Trojans are coming off their best offensive performance of the season, with Boogie Ellis dropping a 29 piece against Eastern Washington. He will be the best player on the floor tonight. Grab the points with the Trojans in what should be the best basketball game of the weekend. USC is going to prove to the nation that they should be ranked.
