Whether Michigan State has Malik Hall (flu) out on the court tonight or not, this is a must-win game for the Spartans. After starting the season with an uncharacteristic loss to JMU, the Spartans are just one game over .500 on the season. Tonight, they have a chance to prove all the doubters wrong, starting Big Ten conference play with a big win against the Wisconsin Badgers.

Wisconsin vs. Michigan State Prediction
The Badgers are coming off a big-time win against Marquette, one of the best teams in the country. They are currently on a five-game win streak. Tonight’s road game in East Lansing might be their toughest test of the season yet.
Both of these teams returned a solid core from last year's rosters. The Spartans went into Madison last year and grinded-out an impressive win against Steven Crowl and the Badgers. Wisconsin even had 13 points off the bench from freshman Connor Essegian, who’s seemingly still bothered by a bad back this season (2.6ppg, 7.9mpg).
If the Spartans’ defense plays anywhere near as good as they did in their last game, the Badgers will have zero avenues to score tonight. This MSU defense is legit, with or without Malik Hall. Tom Izzo’s teams have been known to get out to slow starts, but I’m willing to bet he will have his boys ready to play at home in the first conference game of the year.
Even with the Malik Hall injury news, the Spartans have moved from -4.5 to -5.5 on the spread. Their splits are sharp (45% of bets, 71% of handle per VSIN), and it’s clear that oddsmakers are expecting a Spartans win with or without Hall. Tyson Walker will be the best player on the floor tonight, and the Badgers have struggled to contain point guards at times this year. Fade the Badgers coming off a big win against Marquette, and back the Spartans to cover the spread at home. In Izzo we trust.
