Richmond vs. Northern Iowa Prediction
Northern Iowa might be 2-6 on the season, but they are no slouch. They are actually the 24th unluckiest team out of the 362 active D1 programs. They also have the 74th hardest strength of schedule in the country, which is pretty impressive considering they are in the Missouri Valley Conference.
This UNI team was up by six points at halftime on UNC, and lost to Texas Tech by just two points. They’ve beaten Stanford, a team that Richmond would struggle to defeat. This Northern Iowa team is good, we just haven’t seen them put it together consistently yet. That will get better with time, and with a matchup against one of the most overrated teams in the country.
This Richmond team looks like a shell of themselves from last season without Tyler Burton, the superstar who transferred to Villanova. On the other bench, Northern Iowa returns pretty much their entire team from last season. UNI had one of the younger rotations in the country last year, but as this young team gets reps, they will continue to get better.
This is a battle of offense versus defense. With the Panthers still looking for their first home win of the season, I’ll give an edge to the offensive-minded Panthers, who opened up a Pick’ Em before moving to a 2.5-point favorite. This Panthers’ offense is coming off their best performance of the season in a grueling loss to Evansville on the road. I’m willing to bet they bounce back with a big-time win at home tonight against the overrated Spiders.
