There are some great college basketball matchups on the slate today after a busy Martin Luther King Jr. day on Monday with tons of action across four different leagues. One of those great matchups is a Big East clash between the Seton Hall Pirates and St. John's Red Storm. The Red Storm enter this game with the same record as the Pirates, but they find themselves as very slight 1.5-point favorites on the road in the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey tonight. Can the Red Storm win on the road here?

St. John's vs. Seton Hall Prediction
St. John's underwent some big changes in the offseason after mixed results with Mike Anderson. St. John's and Mike Anderson parted ways after he failed to bring them to the NCAA Tournament in four seasons, and finished 17-14 (7-13 in conference) last year. In came Rick Pitino, the legend from Louisville.
Rick Pitino brought Louisville to 13 March Madness appearances in 16 seasons, and they won it all in 2013. Pitino has the veteran coaching experience St. John's needs, and now they have the team to compete as well.
Rick Pitino has built quite the team from transfers this season. He brought Daniss Jenkins over with him from Iona, Jordan Dingle transferred in from Penn, Chris Ledlum transferred from Harvard, Nahiem Alleyne came from Connecticut, and Glenn Taylor Jr. from Oregon State. This is a completely new-look team built around senior Joel Soriano, who leads the team with 17 points per game and is a fifth-year senior with tons of experience. I love this St. John's team this year, and think they can do damage in March.
Seton Hall is in their second year under surprise coach Shaheen Halloway. Halloway blew up the tournament in 2022 when he took Saint Peter's into the tournament as a 15 seed and upset Kentucky in the first round. Saint Peter's went on to lose in the elite eight to North Carolina. That coaching performance landed Halloway in Newark at Seton Hall, not too far from his former school.
Seton Hall started the season a bit rough, going 5-4 over their first 9 games. Since then, they are 7-1, with wins over Connecticut, Providence, Marquette, and Butler. They are 5-1 in conference play with their lone loss being a road meeting against Xavier.
Kadary Richmond has been stellar for the Pirates this year. He is averaging a team-high 16.4 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. Al-Amir Dawes and Dre Davis are both second on the team with 13.4 points per game. This is the big three for Seton Hall that has made them so dangerous this season.
With Seton Hall's current form, it may seem scary to fade them, but St. John's is the better overall team in my opinion. Seton Hall is hot, but St. John's is one of the most experienced teams in the country, and is loaded with upperclassmen who have been playing excellent basketball this season. St. John's is 4-2 in conference play, with their two losses being a 4-point road loss at UConn and a one-point loss on Saturday on the road against Creighton. The Red Storm have lost by a combined five points to the two best teams in the conference on the road, and I think they may spoil the run that Seton Hall is on tonight. They are road favorites for a reason here. Rick Pitino will have the boys ready tonight.
