Kansas vs. Texas Tech Prediction: Can Pop Isaacs, Red Raiders Get Revenge Against the Jayhawks?

There aren’t many great games on the day after the Super Bowl. The best college basketball matchup between Kansas and Texas Tech makes up for the low quantity of games. Will the Jayhawks slay the Red Raiders in Lubbock like they did last season, or will Texas Tech get their revenge?

KANSAS VS. TEXAS TECH PREDICTION

The Red Raiders have two advantages in this game before it even tips off. The first is that they will be playing at home, where they are 12-1 this season. Lubbock has been known as one of the hardest places to play at in the country. Their second edge in this game is the fact that Kansas will be without one of their top scorer Kevin McCullar Jr. in this contest.

McCullar leads the Jayhawks in scoring. He also transferred in from Texas Tech. I’m sure the Red Raiders have this game circled on their calendar from before the season, looking to get their revenge after losing this game last year to McCullar at home. This year, they have a chance to get their revenge without facing one of the best scorers in the country. This is a huge advantage for the Red Raiders.

Kansas is going to have to rely on freshman Johnny Furphy, the freshman from Melbourne, for scoring without McCullar. He has carried this offense in the second half the season, but this will be the toughest road environment the freshman has played in his entire career. I’m willing to bet he struggles to get going offensively in Lubbock tonight.

Texas Tech has a top-25 three-point percentage in the country. Kansas struggles at two things: defending the three-ball and offensive rebounding. I fully expect the Red Raiders to take advantage of these two weaknesses tonight. Four of Texas Tech’s top-five scorers shoot the three-pointer extremely well; we all know Pop Isaacs isn’t afraid to shoot from behind the arch.

This game has trouble written all over it for Kansas, who is coming off a loss to Kansas State and barely escaping with a win against Baylor on Saturday. This is a quick turnaround for Bill Self and his team as they head to one of the toughest road venues in all of college basketball. Fade the Jayhawks, as McCullar’s injury will be too much for them to overcome on the road in this spot.
