St. John's vs. Georgetown Prediction: Can Joel Soriano, Red Storm Bounce Back Early Against Hoyas?

The Georgetown Hoyas will host the St. John's Red Storm in a battle of fallen Big East powers. Can Joel Soriano and the Red Storm try to salvage what is left of their season on Wednesday night? Ben Rajavuori provides his best betting pick in St. John's vs. Georgetown.

St. John's vs. Georgetown Prediction: Can Joel Soriano, Red Storm Bounce Back Early Against Hoyas?

The St. John’s Red Storm travel to Washington, DC tonight to take on the Georgetown Hoyas. St. John’s is currently sitting at ninth in the conference with a record of 6–9 and an overall record on the season of 14–12. They are taking on the hometown Hoyas, who come into this game with a 1-13 record in conference play, which is second worst ahead of the last-place Depaul Blue Demons. St. John’s is only 6–9 in conference play but are hefty 9-point favorites on the road tonight in Washington DC. What should we expect in this game?

St. John's vs. Georgetown Prediction

The Red Storm have had a very bad last 10 games. St. John’s is 2–8 over their last 10 games, playing a very tough conference schedule. They are 0–5 on the road during this 10-game stretch, with losses at the Creighton Blue Jays, Seton Hall Pirates, Xavier Musketeers, Marquette Golden Eagles, and the Providence Friars. it has been a tough stretch on the road for them, but they get a very advantageous matchup tonight against the Hoyas. Georgetown has been a huge disappointment in the Big East under Ed Cooley this season. In fact, Georgetown has not been good for a few years now, as they went 0–19 in conference play in the 2022 season, 2–18 last season, and are now 1-13, this season in their first season under Ed Cooley, who came over from Providence in the offseason. Not too many things are looking up for this team this year, and their only win in conference play has been against DePaul, which was a 68–65 three point win at home back on January 6. While St. John’s has had its struggles, most of those struggles have come from blowing second-half leads. The best example is just last game at home when they held a 41-29 lead over Seton Hall at the end of the first half and ended up losing 68–62. They only scored four points over the first 12 minutes of the second half and choked away their lead pretty quickly in the second half. That has been the theme for them this season, as they’ve been a very strong first-half team, but have struggled closing out games. Overall, St. John’s is 32nd in the country in first-half margin, leading games by an average of 5.3 points at halftime. Looking at the second half, St. John’s Falls to 187th in second-half margin, losing the second half of games by an average of .1 points. Conversely, Georgetown has been one of the worst first-half teams in the nation. They ranked 302nd in the nation with an average first-half margin of -3.7 points. Given that St. John’s has choked away games in the second half, I like them to come out extremely focused in this game to try and salvage their season and take a big lead into halftime. While I don’t know if they can win this game by double digits on the road, I am confident that they can take at least a six point lead into halftime.
