Coach Patino had some interesting notes for his squad after their loss to Seton Hall last week. He called his time at St. John’s “the most miserable experience of his life,” some interesting words from one of the most respected coaches in the game. The Red Storm bounced back with a win against Georgetown after hearing their coaches comments, and they now have a chance to upset the 15th-ranked Creighton Bluejays at home.

Creighton vs. St. John’s Prediction
After a brutal start to the season, Baylor Scheierman and the Bluejays have ripped off four-straight wins. The public is jumping back on the Creighton bandwagon as they head to MSG for a matchup against the struggling Johnnies. Will the Bluejays sweep the season series, or will Coach Patino get his guys up for a potential Q1 win at home?
I’m willing to bet St. John’s surprises some people today. They almost beat Creighton on the road earlier this year, losing by one in a low-scoring affair. I think we can expect much of the same from the Bluejays and Red Storm, at least offensively, this afternoon.
If Joel Soriano can hold down the paint like he did back in January against Ryan Kalkbrenner, St. John’s can not only cover in this spot… they can win. Daniss Jenkins and Jordan Dingle are more than capable of creating offense against these bigger, slower guards on Creighton (besides Ashworth of course).
St. John’s was able to keep the first matchup within a point shooting only 18% from three. If they can improve just a little bit from deep on Sunday, the Red Storm will have a chance to court storm after upsetting this ranked Creighton squad. St. John’s has also played immensely better at home this season, putting up a 10-4 record. Don’t sleep on the home dog in this spot…
With the public backing Creighton heavily, fade the public and take St. John’s on the spread this afternoon. Coach Patino has been catching some flack for his comments recently; I’m expecting him to have his guys prepared like today is the National Championship. Don’t be surprised if the Red Storm win this game outright, either.
