BYU vs. Kansas Prediction
BYU and Kansas have yet to play since the Cougars joined the BIG 12, but the Jayhawks are going to be wishing BYU never switched conferences after tonight. Don’t be fooled by their most recent performance against Kansas State, this is actually a better matchup for the Cougars to steal one on the road.
Nobody wants to bet on BYU when they’re on the road, and the public surely doesn’t want to fade Kansas at home where they are still perfect on the season. That is why I love this spot so much. Kansas has to be the most-popular parlay piece of the day today, and the betting splits (on VSIN) would agree. Kansas is currently bringing in 97% of the bets and handle on the moneyline. Only 10% of the bets are on BYU +6.5. You won’t see many teams this season get this public, and that’s always a side you want to be fading.
BYU has the shooting to shock the world and keep this game close. Every single player who gets significant minutes on this team can shoot the three ball extremely well. They all shoot better than 30% from deep this season. Kansas ranks 141st in the country at defending the three, and they’ve actually defending the perimeter worse than their season average in their last couple of games as well.
This game has all the makings of an upset to me. Nobody on earth wants to bet on the BYU Cougars at Kansas, who notoriously owns one of the best home-court advantages in college basketball. That is what makes this play so great, and when you dive into the matchup itself, you’ll see that BYU actually stands more of a chance than the public’s perception.
It certainly doesn’t hurt that the Jayhawks will be without their star Kevin McCullar in this contest. That could be just the break the Cougars need to get over the hump and finally pull off a legendary road upset. Fade Kansas at home in this spot, and bet BYU on the spread tonight. They will keep this game within a couple of possessions.
