Gonzaga vs. San Francisco Prediction
Would you look at that, Gonzaga is ranked again. Mark Few has had some really good squads over the years at Gonzaga, but his team this year doesn’t impress me much. San Francisco has a great matchup against Graham Ike tonight, Gonzaga’s best player…
Ike has been on a tear recently, dropping 20+ points in each of his last five games. Ike hasn’t faced a big like Jonathan Mogbo in any of these games, though. Mogbo might not be Zach Edey’s height, but he is tough and has a physical build that can hang with Ike down low. I’ve watched a lot of Graham Ike’s games even dating back to his time at Wyoming, and he struggles against physical bigs. Mogbo is a horrid matchup for Ike tonight.
This game is being played at a “neutral site” where the Warriors play, but I still consider this as a home game for the Dons. They’ve been dominant at home this season, winning 14 of their 15 games this season. Although this game isn’t being played on campus, the Dons still have the edge here.
Mogbo is a beast in the paint, but the Dons best quality is their three-point shooting. Five of their top six scorers shoot better than 34% from behind the arch this season, and Gonzaga gives up the three ball like it’s their job. They rank 166th in the country at defending the three-pointer, and they’ve performed worse than their season average of late as well. If the Zags continue to struggle defending the three, they could lose this game outright.
Nobody wants to bet on the Dons in this spot. Gonzaga is finally starting to click, they’re ranked again and Graham Ike has played like one of the best players in the country recently. Less than 30% of the bets are currently backing the Dons on the spread, but over 58% of the handle (on VSIN) is on the Dons. There are some big bets being placed on San Francisco in this spot, including mine. Join me as we fade Gonzaga on the spread tonight; I’ll meet you at the cash counter.
