Queens vs. Florida Gulf Coast Prediction
The ASUN is one of the only conference tournaments in college basketball that doesn’t take place at one singular neutral site. These games are played at the arenas of schools in the conference. Tonight, Queen’s University will be facing off with FGCU at the Edmunds Center, where Stetson plays their home games. This location is much closer to FGCU’s campus than it is to Queen’s, but that doesn’t mean we should count the Royals out just yet...
Queen’s went 1-15 on the moneyline in away games this season, but the Royals love playing on neutral courts. Since getting the call up to D1 last season, the Royals are 4-0 ATS on neutral courts. Queen’s will have an advantage as both teams look to keep their seasons alive on Monday night.
Let’s not forget how good this Queen’s team was last season. They lost Kenny Dye, their best player, and it has taken Coach Leonard some time to figure out how to replace his production, but the Royals were playing some good basketball down the stretch. AJ McKee and Deyton Albury are two of the best guards in the ASUN; don’t be surprised of these two studs take over this contest.
Remember when I said Queen’s was 1-15 in road games this season? Well, their one road victory came only a couple days ago when the Royals beat Stetson on their home floor. This is the same floor that Queen’s will be playing FGCU on tonight. The Royals might not have had a bunch of success on the road this season, but I love the fact that their one road win came on the same court they will be playing on tonight. This could be the spark of confidence this team needs heading into the ASUN tournament…
These teams played twice this season. Queen’s won the first matchup at home, and FGCU beat the Royals at home only a couple of days ago in the second contest. FGCU is coming off three straight wins and covers, including two as underdogs. Everyone remembers FGSU’s magical “Dunk City” run in March Madness a few years back, and the public seems to be buying-in on the Eagles in the first round of the ASUN tournament tonight.
Fade the public in this spot; FGCU might be entering conference-tourney play on fire, but this Queen’s team likes to run. They are top-25 in pace this season. FGCU likes to slow the pace down, ranked as one of the slowest teams in the country. If AJ McKee, Deyton Albury and freshman Bryce Cash get going early, the Eagles won’t be able to fight their way back into this one. Queen’s is simply too fast. This one might get one of hand quickly…
