The San Diego State Aztecs might’ve gone to the National Championship last year. They might be ranked inside the AP Poll’s Top 25. That doesn’t mean they are going to win tonight. Let’s dive into this late-night matchup between two second-place Mountain West teams…

San Diego State vs. UNLV Prediction
It’s senior night for the UNLV Rebels, and there are plenty of players to celebrate. Five of the Rebels top seven scorers will be playing their last regular season game at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas tonight. What if I told you that their two most important players aren’t even the one’s partaking in the senior night festivities?
Dedan Thomas Jr. has shined in his freshman season, leading the team in scoring and assists per game. He might lead the Rebels in scoring, but don’t be fooled… Thomas is a dimer at heart. The Aztecs have struggled to defend shifty pass-first point guards this season. New Mexico has a plethora of talent at the guard position, and they were able to defeat San Diego State with ease earlier this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if tonight’s contest between the Aztecs and Rebels turns out relatively similar.
UNLV has a ton of talent, and this team is peaking at the right time. They have won and covered in each of the last four games, putting up some impressive defensive performances. The Boone brothers and the rest of these UNLV veterans have played their best basketball of the season of late, but the heart and soul of this team is Rob Whaley Jr., the junior from Farmington, Utah. He’s build like a cinderblock and will have no issues holding down the paint against Jaedon LeDee and the Aztecs.
I’m buying stock on this UNLV Rebels team playing inspired basketball down the stretch. They’ve got a great opportunity to earn a Q1 win at home tonight against a ranked San Diego State team that’s struggled mightily on the road. The Aztecs are perfect at home, but a surprising 5-7 on the road this season. Don’t be surprised if they drop another close game to the red-hot Rebels.
Fade Jaelon LeDee and this Aztecs team that looks like a shell of themself away from home. Dedan Thomas Jr. will lead the Rebels to victory tonight, or at least a cover on the spread. Bet on UNLV to win on senior night against one of the Mountain West’s best on Tuesday night; I’ll meet you at the cash counter.
