One of my favorite college basketball plays today takes us down to Davidson, North Carolina for a contest between two A-10 programs with great history. The Loyola-Chicago Ramblers are notorious for Sister Jean and their Final Four run back in 2018, but the public isn’t talking about their 21-8 season enough. Davidson, on the other hand, was has struggled mightily this season, but the former home of Steph Curry has a chance to gain some momentum on Senior Night before the A-10 conference tournament.

Loyola-Chicago vs. Davidson Prediction
It’s Senior Night for the Davidson Wildcats, and although there isn’t much to celebrate this year, that’s always a boost for the home team towards the end of the regular season. Since Davidson’s top scorer David Skogman went down with an injury, the Wildcats are only 3-7. Their record looks worse than their recent play, as they’ve been competitive and looked better in their last five games.
A lot of their recent losses came on the road against some of the best teams in the conference. Obviously whenever the best player on any team goes down, there’s a rough adjustment period. Tonight, the Wildcats have a chance to get a feel-good win in their last home game of the season. They might sit in the basement of the A-10 standings, but this Davidson program is solid; I’m willing to bet they come out with an uptick in energy against the red-hot Ramblers tonight.
The Ramblers are coming off debatably the biggest win in at home in program history. They finally defeated a ranked opponent at the Gentile Center for the first time in decades. That’s a team I want to fade. There’s zero chance Loyola-Chicago prepares the same way this week coming off that massive win against the best team in the conference. Considering Davidson’s recent struggles, this is one of the biggest let-down spots of the college basketball season.
Davidson hasn’t won many games of late, but they do three things fairly well that might give them an edge against Sister Jean’s Ramblers tonight. Davidson is a very good free throw shooting team, especially at home. The Ramblers like to foul a lot, and play very physical defense. That could hurt them tonight on the road. Davidson also rebounds better than the Ramblers, especially on the offensive glass. Davidson also doesn’t turn the ball over much, which will be huge against this tenacious Loyola-Chicago defense.
It might not look like it on paper, but Davidson has a better chance to beat Loyola-Chicago than most would think. That’s why they are the betting favorite tonight, even with their recent struggles. Fade the Ramblers, who are coming off a massive win, and back Davidson on Senior Night. There’s a reason they’re the betting favorite against the second-place Ramblers…
