Marquette will probably still be without their star Tyler Kolek, but that hasn’t slowed them down in the tourney so far. UConn has been taking care of business lately, but they’ve had some nail-biters down the stretch. Will the Huskies escape with another victory against the short-handed Eagles? More importantly…will they cover?

I feel like this Huskies team hasn’t gotten the respect from the public that they deserve. Maybe it’s because they are fresh off a National Championship, and everyone’s tired of their success, but Coach Dan Hurley has reloaded the Huskies with talent. They are looking to make another March Madness run, but first they have to finish off Marquette in their conference championship.
UConn got the better of Marquette in both matchups during the regular season. Tonight the Eagles will be looking to do the impossible: beating UConn without their best player. Will they have the firepower to keep up with Tristen Newton and Cam Spencer? Shaka Smart will have to concoct the perfect gameplan that gets executed perfectly by Kam Jones and Oso Ighodaro. That’s a lot to ask for the Eagles…
Marquette getting nearly double digits on the spread is an attractive number to the public. More than half the bets are coming in on Marquette to cover tonight (on VSIN), which isn’t surprising. The Eagles are 20-12-1 ATS this season. They’ve been very generous to the public over the last couple of seasons, and they’ve covered in every game of the Big East tournament. UConn just gave up 90 points and barely beat St. John’s yesterday. Marquette on the spread might be one of the easiest-looking bets of the day, which is exactly why we have to fade it.
Nobody wants to lay the number with UConn in this spot, just like when they were laying a big number in the National Championship last year. Well, they covered in that game and they are going to cover once again tonight, beating Marquette for the third time this season. It’s been a great run for the Eagles in the tourney without Tyler Kolek up to this point, but the Huskies simply have too much talent on the offensive end. Fade Marquette and back UConn on the spread tonight. They win this game by 10+ and solidify themselves as one of the top two teams in the country.
