5 minFlorida vs. Auburn Prediction: Can Johni Broome, Tigers Light Up the Scoreboard in the SEC Championship?
The Florida Gators and Auburn Tigers meet in the SEC championship on selection Sunday. Florida has beat Georgia, Alabama, and Texas A&M to secure their spot in the championship. While Florida was probably getting an at-large bid coming into the tournament anyway, making it to the championship has all but secured their position for an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. On the other hand, Auburn has had a dominant season and will likely be a two or three-seed in the NCAA tournament win or lose today. Auburn has beat South Carolina and Mississippi State to get to the championship. Auburn is a 5.5-point favorite today to win the SEC championship. However, I’m more interested in the total.

Florida vs. Auburn Prediction
Florida has had some high-flying offense this season, as, they waste no time getting up the floor and getting a shot up. Florida ranks first overall in field goals attempted per game in the nation this season, and they rank 18th overall in adjusted tempo. Florida is also second in the nation in offensive rebounding, averaging 13.1 offensive rebounds per game, allowing for more second-chance scoring opportunities. On the other hand, while Johnie Broome and Auburn opt to play a slightly slower tempo, it’s not that much slower. Auburn ranks 49th in average possession length on offense, but they are also rated as the tenth most efficient offense in the nation. Where they tend to slow teams down is on defense, but that will not be an issue against Florida who pushes the pace no matter what the defense brings at them.
In the first meeting of the season, Florida put up 81 points and Auburn had an uncharacteristically bad shooting performance to only score 65. They shot just 17% from three in that game and 53% from the free-throw line. I expect Florida to get near or touch 80 points again and for Auburn to bounce back from that poor shooting performance when these two teams met back on February 10th. The pace of this game should be frantic, as much of Florida’s games have been this season. I am not worried about the fact that this is a conference championship because Florida Has been in high-flying games for the first three games of this tournament and has hit 165 combined points in all three games. They even put up 102 on Alabama in the second round. Take the over in this one and watch a lot of buckets today in the SEC championship.
