Grambling was the winner of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. The Grambling Tigers were 20-14 and a 14-4 record in their conference. The Tigers average just 67.6 PPG and their pace ranks 302th lowest in the nation. Although their offense is well below par, their defense is what has kept them in games, and ultimately won them their conference tournament allowing just 169 points in their last three games. Grambling is not great at rebounding the ball, yet either is Montana State. The winner of that statistic will win the game in my opinion.
Montana State won the Big Sky Conference Tournament beating their in-state rival of Montana. The Bobcats finished their regular season with a 17-17 record, and a 9-9 in-conference record. Montana State has won their last four games and are pumped about this one. Montana State averages 75.1 PPG and shoots at a rate of 46.6% from the field. The Bobcats are scrappy at defense and get 8.2 steals per game. Grambling on the other hand ranks 291st in the nation in turnovers while coughing up 12.4 per game. This is a key stat, if Montana State can create turnovers and get fast break points, I think that they will win this game.
This game will be an interesting one. Kintavious Dozier and Grambling were a No. 1 seed in the conference, where as Montana State had an underdog story in the Big Sky while they have the No. 5 seed. In this matchup, I think that Montana State wins, and wins convincingly. The best part about Grambling's game is their defense, yet they are average at best when it comes to that. Montana State shoots the ball effectively and creates turnovers on the defensive end. If Montana State can win the rebounding battle and stay out of foul trouble, I can see them winning by 8+ in this game.
