Nevada vs. Dayton Prediction: Can Wolfpack Shut Down Daron Holmes, Flyers in Round of 64?
What a year it was for the Dayton Flyers… until about two weeks ago. They went from looking like the best mid-major in the country, to not even winning making it to the A-10 conference finals. Daron Holmes and the Flyers have another shot to make up for their poor ending to the season. On Thursday, they are scheduled to face the Nevada Wolfpack in Salt Lake City. Which mid-major will keep their season alive with a win?

Nevada vs. Dayton Prediction
Nevada is coming off one of their best seasons in years. They had some magical moments, like Jarod Lucas’ half-court heave to beat Colorado State on their home floor. There’s something special about this Nevada team. In years’ past, the Wolfpack have found every way to lose the big game. This year, with Blackshear running the point and Lucas raining from three, the Wolfpack feel like a different team. They’ve closed out games nearly all season, and I’m willing to bet they’ve got one more win in them before their season is over.
The Dayton Flyers are one of the slowest teams in the country. That won’t be a problem for Nevada, who likes to take their time as well. The Flyers are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country, but there’s a big difference between playing against A-10 defenses and this Nevada defense. The Wolfpack are extremely athletic, and have a top-40 perimeter defense. The three pointers won’t be coming as easily for Dayton in this contest.
If Nevada can slow down Daron Holmes, a future NBA draft pick, they will win this game with ease. Once the Flyers realize they can’t shoot themselves back into this game from behind the arc, they will look to Holmes in the paint. Luckily for the Wolfpack, their athleticism should benefit them against Holmes. They’ve got plenty of bodies to throw at him, even if Dayton tries to switch defenders off their star.
We’ve seen this movie before. Dayton gets hyped up for the entire regular season, and they find a new way to blow it once the postseason starts. I don’t think this year will be any different for the Flyers. They rely too much on their future NBA star. Holmes is unbelievably talented, but he can’t beat this Nevada team on his own.
Jarod Lucas and Kenan Blackshear Jr. have talked about how badly they want to avenge their embarrassing postseason loss from last season. They have all the talent in the world to hand Dayton another excruciating loss on Thursday. I’ve bought-in to this Nevada team since the beginning of the season, and they haven’t let me down yet. Take them on the moneyline on Thursday, they aren’t losing to the Flyers.
