From 2008-2022, UConn Huskies appeared in 14 consecutive Final Fours. However, last year, the Huskies didn't.
The Huskies were a No. 2 seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament but were eliminated by the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Sweet 16.
There's a reason for that.
The Huskies didn't have Paige Bueckers, who had suffered an ACL tear in her left knee in August of 2022. She took a redshirt year last season and returned this year.
In 34 games, Bueckers has averaged 21.3 points for the Huskies while still shooting 53.8% from the field. Having her in the starting lineup changes a lot for UConn.

Jackson State Lady Tigers vs. UConn Huskies Prediction
The Huskies aren't just led by Paige Bueckers. They've also got Aaliyah Edwards, who has added 17.5 points per game with 9.3 rebounds. She's shot 59% from the field and has been just as big for the Huskies as Bueckers.
The Huskies have earned about 80 points per game while holding other teams to 57 points per game. They've shot nearly 50% from the field and have nailed 56% from inside the arc.
The Huskies aren't getting to the foul line at a super high rate, but they've scored 1.16 points per scoring attempt, which is really good.
On the other hand, UConn has held teams to 40.9% from inside and 28.4% from deep this year. Teams have only shot a 41.5% effective field goal percentage on UConn and have rarely seen the foul line.
Meanwhile, Jackson State doesn't have a true star. They won 26 games this season while being super balanced. The Lady Tigers had four players average at least 10.1 points per game this year.
The offense scored .97 points per scoring attempt, which is good, but doesn't compare to UConn. The team is also really good at getting to the foul line, but that won't happen against UConn. With the lack of foul shots, the Jackson State Lady Tigers won't score nearly as many points.
They've also nailed just 28.4% from downtown this season, which isn't ideal. However, I'll give the Jackson State defense some credit. Teams have only shot an effective field goal percentage of 38%. That's extremely good and one of the reasons I think Jackson State can at least keep this game under 30 points.
With the spread at 33.5, I'll take a chance on the Jackson State Lady Tigers to cover. After all, this team only lost six games the entire year.
