Creighton vs. Tennessee Prediction: Can Dalton Knecht, Volunteers Advance in Sweet 16 Showdown?

The last matchup of the Sweet Sixteen might end up being the best game out of the bunch. Two star-studded rosters face off on Friday night in Detroit as Baylor Scheierman and the Creighton Bluejays look to keep their season alive against Dalton Knecht and Tennessee. Which team’s superstar will carry them to the Elite Eight with a victory on Friday night?

Creighton vs. Tennessee Prediction

Creighton has looked impressive through the first two rounds of the tournament, but we have to remember how inconsistent this team is. Oregon took them into double overtime in the last round. They might’ve beaten the Ducks by double digits, but that game was closer than it should’ve been. It’s starting to feel like the Bluejays are on borrowed time…

Tennessee has been winning games in this tournament with their defense. They held the Longhorns to under 60 points in their last game. It seems like Rick Barnes and the Volunteers benefitted from an early exit in the SEC Tournament. His team has looked sharp through the first two rounds, and they haven’t even had to rely on their best player Dalton Knecht to win them these games. Tonight, he is going to have to carry the Volunteers if they want to advance. It’s a good thing he has a fantastic matchup on Friday…

Knecht shot 5-18 from the field against the Longhorns last weekend. It was truly one of the worst shooting performances of his season. I’m banking on a bounce-back performance from Tennessee’s best player on Friday. Besides Steven Ashworth who won’t even be covering Knecht, nobody on this Creighton team is quick enough to keep up with Knecht. He’s simply too big and quick for anyone to matchup with him. Creighton has size, but will one of their wings be able to keep up with Tennessee’s star? I’m willing to bet they won’t be able to…

The public loves Creighton tonight. Nearly half the bets and handle are currently backing the Bluejays to cover (on VSIN) against Tennessee, but the spread has moved a point towards the Volunteers. After opening up 2.5-point favorites, Tennessee is now -3.5 on the spread. This reverse line movement is a great sign for Tennessee bettors. Fade Creighton and their star-studded roster on Friday; they aren’t going to be able to penetrate the interior against the Volunteers, and if Creighton has to rely on three-pointers in this contest, it could be a long night.
