Louisville vs. Clemson Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest Odds for ACC Tournament Semifinal

The Clemson Tigers face off with the Louisville Cardinals tonight in an ACC Semifinal matchup in Charlotte.

Both of these teams played surprisingly close games in the ACC Quarterfinals. Louisville sneaked by Stanford, 75-73, after trailing by as much as 15 in the second half, thanks to a buzzer beater by Chucky Hepburn. In the late game, Clemson squeaked by SMU in a gritty, low-scoring matchup, 57-54.

These teams met two months ago at the Yum Center, where Louisville handed Clemson one of their two ACC losses this season, 74-64. Louisville’s J’Vonne Hadley exploded for a career high 32 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the win.

Louisville vs. Clemson Prediction

Louisville has had an awesome season in year one under Pat Kelsey. Even in a down league, 18-2 is very impressive. The thing I can’t get out of my head with Louisville is how thin they’ve become. Kelsey typically likes to go 8 to 9 deep on his bench. The Cardinals have overcome the early season losses of Kasean Pryor and Koren Johnson, but now with Reyne Smith sidelined, Kelce really only trusts six guys. 

Maxime Raynaud and Stanford are no joke, but Louisville was lucky to win last night in a game where they were favored by 10 points. 

Clemson lost a key rotation player for the season last night in Dillon Hunter, but, but I do think that loss can easily be overcome with increased minutes from Del Jones, Chuancey Wiggins, and Jake Heidbreder. 

Clemson grabbed 16 offensive rebounds in that first matchup against Louisville, and I expect Ian Schieffelin and Viktor Lakhin to find success on the interior here tonight. 

Additionally, one could argue that a Hepburn/Edwards backcourt is better or equal to a Hunter/Zackery one, but Chase Hunter is the best player on the floor in my opinion, and in this matchup, he’s the guy I’d most want to have.

Pat Kelsey wants his guys to take a ton of 3's (UL is 12th nationally in 3P rate, 49% of their attempts come from back there), but without Reyne Smith the attack from distance isn’t as scary. Which puts a lot on the shoulders of Hepburn and Edwards.

Brad Brownell’s group is the side I prefer in this spot.
