Syracuse can score. Donnie Freeman has been the engine when healthy, averaging nearly 18 points and seven rebounds per game while converting at a high rate inside. The Orange also get steady production from J.J. Starling and multiple guards capable of reaching double figures. On paper, the offense is respectable and efficient.
The problem is the matchup. Duke ranks inside the top tier nationally on both ends of the floor, and its frontcourt presents a massive obstacle for Syracuse’s primary strength. Cameron Boozer has quickly emerged as one of the most dominant players in the country, producing at an elite level inside while controlling the glass. Alongside Patrick Ngongba II, Duke protects the rim and erases high percentage looks in the paint. This is easily the most difficult interior defense Syracuse will have faced in recent weeks.

Duke is coming off a strong response after its loss at North Carolina, and the focus has been evident. With a top seed in the NCAA Tournament within reach, there is no room for complacency. Syracuse may hang around early if shots fall, but over forty minutes the depth, athleticism, and defensive presence of Duke should create separation.
