Idaho vs. Montana Prediction: Can Vandals Punch Ticket to March Madness in Big Sky Championship?

Idaho vs Montana tips tonight in the Big Sky Conference championship game, and this one sets up as a spot to back Idaho in what should be a tightly contested battle with an NCAA Tournament bid on the line.

Both teams arrive after impressive tournament runs. Montana has knocked off two of the pre tournament favorites, Northern Colorado and Portland State, behind an incredible scoring surge from junior guard Money Williams. Williams has poured in 72 points across those two games, attacking the rim and creating offense in transition while lifting the confidence of the entire roster.

Idaho vs. Montana Prediction

The Grizzlies have jumped out to large first half leads in both games and are clearly playing with momentum after a rough finish to the regular season. Veteran head coach Travis DeCuire has his team playing with energy again, and Montana’s offense has looked far more aggressive throughout the tournament.

Idaho has taken a different path to reach this stage, grinding through an extra game and leaning heavily on defense during key stretches. The Vandals opened the tournament by holding Sacramento State to just 45 points, then followed that up with a strong defensive second half against Montana State to complete a comeback victory. In the semifinal, Idaho again limited Eastern Washington’s offense early, holding the Eagles to just 28 first half points while forcing tough perimeter looks.

While Montana’s offense has been explosive, the Grizzlies have also shown vulnerability. In both of their tournament wins, large leads slipped away during the second half, allowing opponents to regain momentum. Idaho has already proven in this tournament that it can capitalize on those swings, especially when the defense tightens late.

Offensively, Idaho has its own playmakers capable of keeping pace. Kolton Mitchell and Biko Johnson have provided steady scoring throughout the tournament and have consistently delivered when the Vandals needed key possessions. With both teams pushing the pace and taking plenty of perimeter shots, scoring opportunities should be available on both sides.

The difference in this matchup comes down to balance and defensive reliability. Montana has ridden the hot hand of Williams, but Idaho has shown the ability to withstand runs and control key stretches with its defense. In a game that could feature momentum swings and late game pressure, the Vandals’ ability to adjust and respond becomes critical.

Idaho vs. Montana Pick

With Idaho proving it can slow opponents at key moments while still generating offense through its backcourt, the Vandals are well positioned to finish this tournament run and punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
