Portland has still been inconsistent, but its recent stretch looks considerably healthier than Toronto's. The Fire have shown they can beat legitimate opponents and survive close fourth-quarter games, a major development for an expansion roster that spent the early season learning how to finish.
Toronto has now lost 12 straight after Wednesday's 93-82 defeat in Washington. The Tempo previously pushed Indiana in a 101-95 loss and Brittney Sykes has returned from a lengthy plantar fascia injury, but competitive stretches have continually ended the same way. The first expansion-team meeting was also heavily tilted toward Portland. The Fire went into Toronto on May 23 and won 99-80, outscoring the Tempo 55-36 after halftime.
