The Mystics and Mercury meet again at 10:10 PM ET in Phoenix, with Washington favored by only 2.5 points after Tuesday's convincing victory. The Mystics enter at 23-15, while the Mercury have fallen to 13-25 and have lost three straight.
Tuesday offered very little evidence that the matchup has changed. Washington won 94-84 and led by as many as 20 points, shooting 51.5% from the field and 42.9% from 3-point range. Sonia Citron finished with 19 points and nine assists, Kiki Iriafen had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Shakira Austin added 16.

The final 10-point margin actually made the game look closer than it was. Washington led 51-33 at halftime and maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the entire second half. Phoenix briefly found some offense late, but there was never serious doubt about which team controlled the game.
More importantly, it was not an isolated result. Washington also crushed Phoenix 95-75 on August 9, meaning the Mystics have won the two August meetings by 20 and 10 points. Across those games, Washington has outscored Phoenix 189-159, yet the rematch line again asks the Mystics to cover only one possession.
Phoenix did get Kelsey Plum back Tuesday after she had been sidelined since August 9, but she played only 17 minutes and scored 10 points. Kahleah Copper and Natasha Mack each finished with 19, while Alyssa Thomas had 16 points and 10 assists, and even that level of production was not enough to make the game particularly competitive.
The Mercury have now lost to Portland, Atlanta and Washington consecutively, surrendering at least 88 points in each game. Their only victory since August 7 came against Los Angeles, and the gap between Phoenix and the playoff-caliber teams has become increasingly obvious.
Washington, meanwhile, has already clinched a playoff berth and still has meaningful seeding incentive. Citron, Iriafen and Austin have developed into a balanced core that can punish Phoenix in several different areas, and there is little reason to abandon a matchup that has produced two emphatic results in less than three weeks.

Eventually the market will adjust or Phoenix will prove it can make Washington uncomfortable. Neither has happened yet. Until the Mercury show they can stay inside one possession against this team, laying only 2.5 with a Mystics side that has beaten them by double digits twice in a row remains the value play.
