Chicago and New York tip off at 1:10 PM ET, with the Liberty favored by 8.5 points and the total set at 178.5. New York enters at 23-16 after being dismantled by Golden State on Thursday, while Chicago sits at 15-24 and is already outside the playoff race.
The Liberty's 79-60 loss to Golden State was not simply another defeat. New York scored a season-low 60 points, shot 30.2% from the field and went 7-for-31 from 3-point range despite having considerably more rest than the Valkyries. Golden State completed a season sweep and exposed many of the same offensive problems New York has battled throughout the second half.

Sabrina Ionescu's shooting slump is becoming particularly difficult to ignore. She scored seven points on 2-for-12 shooting Thursday and went 1-for-9 from 3. Over her last seven games, she has made only eight of 50 attempts from beyond the arc.
Chicago may be eliminated, but this matchup has consistently brought out its best. The Sky beat New York 93-86 on August 18, and their other two meetings this season were decided by one point each, with the Liberty escaping 95-94 in July and 96-95 in June. Chicago is therefore 1-2 straight up against New York but has not lost any of the three meetings by more than seven.
That matters enormously with +8.5 available. The Liberty have the vastly superior roster and should be favored at Barclays Center, but they have not consistently played like a team that deserves to lay nearly double digits. Their offense can stall for extended stretches, particularly when Ionescu is not making outside shots.
Chicago still has pieces capable of making the matchup uncomfortable. Kamilla Cardoso is averaging around 15 points and nine rebounds and gives the Sky a legitimate interior presence, while the team already proved less than two weeks ago that it can win this matchup outright.
New York should enter with considerable motivation after being embarrassed by Golden State, and a bounce-back win would not be surprising. The issue is separating victory from covering 8.5. The Liberty's two victories over Chicago this season came by a combined two points, and their one loss came by seven.

Until New York starts consistently putting inferior opponents away, there is little reason to pay a premium for the name on the front of the jersey.
