4 Minute ReadLiberty vs. Dream Prediction: Can Breanna Stewart, Liberty Even Series in Game 2 of WNBA Semifinals on Wednesday Night?
New York needs a response after dropping Game 1 by double digits, but the series setup still leaves the Liberty in a manageable position. A road victory Wednesday would send the best-of-five matchup back to Brooklyn tied 1-1 with Games 3 and 4 scheduled at Barclays Center.
Atlanta has been one of the hottest teams in the league and has now beaten New York three straight times. However, Allisha Gray's absence significantly changes the Game 2 matchup and gives the Liberty an opportunity to capitalize before returning home.
Liberty vs. Dream Recent Results
New York Liberty (26-18)
New York opened the semifinals with a 92-82 loss despite 27 points from Sabrina Ionescu. The biggest problem was ball security, with the Liberty committing 21 turnovers and allowing Atlanta to turn a disastrous third quarter into the separation it needed.
That performance came after an excellent first round in which New York swept No. 1 seed Minnesota by 16 points in both games. Breanna Stewart, Ionescu and Jonquel Jones give the Liberty enough postseason experience and offensive firepower to produce a much cleaner response.
Atlanta Dream (30-14)
Atlanta continued its postseason surge by winning Game 1 behind 25 points from Jordin Canada and 23 from DeWanna Bonner. The Dream forced nine turnovers in the third quarter alone and used a 13-0 run to seize control.
The concern for Game 2 is the loss of Gray, who injured her hand during the opener and has been ruled out. Atlanta managed to thrive without her for much of Game 1, but replacing one of its primary scorers for an entire game creates a much different challenge.

Liberty vs. Dream Prediction
Game 1 highlighted exactly how Atlanta wants this series to be played. The Dream created turnovers, generated transition opportunities and repeatedly prevented New York from settling into its half-court offense. Cleaning up those possessions should be the Liberty's first adjustment.
The Gray injury provides another major opening. Atlanta still has Canada, Rhyne Howard, Angel Reese and Bonner, but removing a 22-point-per-game playoff scorer from the rotation puts considerably more pressure on that group to replicate its Game 1 production.
New York also has recent evidence that it can respond under postseason pressure. The Liberty entered the playoffs as the No. 8 seed and immediately swept a 33-win Minnesota team, with Stewart leading a veteran core that has played in consecutive WNBA Finals.
Atlanta remains dangerous, especially after beating New York three straight times, but +108 is an attractive price on the more experienced team in a high-leverage bounce-back spot. Evening the series would allow New York to return home with two consecutive games at Barclays Center and completely change the complexion of the matchup.

The Liberty need better ball security and more consistent interior involvement, but those are correctable Game 1 problems. With Gray unavailable for Atlanta, New York has a strong opportunity to steal Game 2 and head home with the series tied.
