This Saturday Chris Eubank Jr. takes on Liam Smith in the middleweight bout in Manchester, England. Can Eubank Jr. make a statement? LightningLockz breaks it down.
ANALYSIS

Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Liam Smith Prediction, Pick, Odds: Can Eubank Jr. Make a Statement?

Although possessing one of the most prestigious championship boxing pedigrees imaginable, the up-and-down Chris Eubanks Jr. has had a fairly rough go of it as of late, not just in terms of getting a fight, but staying relevant in the public eye as well. While he is on a cozy little six-fight win streak, the fact of the matter is that it is against the absolutely inferior and borderline abysmal competition.

Of course not game-breaking news in the slightest to hear that a boxer will sometimes opt to implement the padding routine in order to either bounce back from a debilitating loss or preserve an unblemished fight record, but when you're doing it against the glorified pub brawlers of yesteryear like Anvi Yildrim and Matvey Korobov is where I finally draw the line in the sand.

Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Liam Smith Prediction

It's for those reasons and more for why you should not be in for much of a shock to hear that Eubanks Jr. has consistently failed to gain any sort of traction amongst his own people like his father before him, as the strength of schedule has been a low and plain uneventful time in and time out. Surely deflating for fans of the sport and the boxer in question alike, that is why it is somewhat of a head-scratcher for why the upcoming Saturday bout against historically mid-Liverpudlian Liam Smith is even taking place.

Apart from securing yet another payday, Eubanks Jr. will not amass any new fans due to the perspicacious nature of the somewhat hometown hero in Smith as well as Eubanks Jr.'s overall penchant for simply going to cards no matter how low his opponent is to him in comparison.

In betting on this contest, the general consensus will no doubt be for the aforementioned Eubanks when it comes down to brass tacks however, as the 33-year-old will at least be a little bit hungry to take out his career aggressions and obtain a hefty bag in the process, all while he still can at a semi-competitive level.

I'm not trying to make it out as Liam Smith has absolutely zero shot or anything, but historically speaking every time the lad has taken even a slight bump in competition he falters, usually in an effort by promoters to put over a budding prospect like such was the case during his skirmish with Magomed Kurbanov.

Although Eubanks is not a spring chicken in the slightest, it is quite apparent that he is a side in this situation, and he well and truly needs this tuneup to go beautifully if he has any hopes of rescheduling the somewhat hype-inducing altercation with Conor Benn sometime down the road. Barring some kind of egregious draw to preserve the already tainted legacy of Eubanks Jr., the proposition for him to win on points is solid.

Give me the British version of Julio Caesar Chavez Jr. in Chris Eubank who is the second to pitter-patter his way onto a unanimous decision across the board against the over-his-head but scrappy Liam Smith, all to the delight of absolutely no one and especially for the poor souls that end up getting swindled into purchasing this shockingly putrid weekend card.
