ANALYSIS

Artur Beterbiev vs. Anthony Yarde Prediction, Pick, Odds: How Long With This Light Heavyweight Bout Last?

This very Saturday, major league boxing returns with the utmost vengeance, looking to take up some of the real estate left over in absence of the UFC and then some. While casual fight fans might only vaguely be aware of the sweet sciences light heavyweight division due to Canelo's foray into it last summer, real ones know that the weight class has been absolutely popping these last few years.

From the aforementioned Canelo Conqueror of Dimitry Bivol to hardworking blue collar title holding Joe Smith, and finally, the cinderblock-handed Artur Beterbiev, the situation right now has never been more accessible to the general masses. Simply put, there is a style for everyone. If you are looking for a cerebral, insanely methodical chess match with punches, Bivol is your guy, as he is perhaps operating at the highest level 175 has ever seen. If you are looking for the division's version of a prime Mike Tyson, Beterbiev has you covered in spades.

Artur Beterbiev vs. Anthony Yarde Prediction

The clash of various technical nuances makes for a barn-burning, visceral clash of excitement, no question, but in the process to achieve those types of matches finalized, the top guys must first get through various squash matches and indifferent setup smokers for borderline mickey mouse belts in order to not only build hype but pay for various bills on their way to the life-changing money fights. This Saturday will be none the wiser, as Beterbiev puts his legacy on the line once more before the inevitable clash with Bivol against Anthony Yarde.

Obtaining the status of being a prolific finisher in his own right, the London Lunatic in Yarde will be coming into the fray with a record of 23-2, with a whopping 22 of those victories coming by way of stoppage. Although the resume seems rather beautiful and shiny at first glance, the fact of the matter is that further inspection reveals the class of competition has been quite facetious, with the South of Brexit Slugger bolstering his statistics with pub fighters and journeymen well throughout his professional tenure. Padding the record is nothing new in boxing, but when you are going to life and death against a Jurassic Sergei Kovalev, eventually wilting after the 10th round to add insult to injury, that's when the cause for concern starts to ramp up immensely when matching him up subsequently with the boogeyman of the division in Artur Beterbiev.

The way I see this fight playing out is that Artur not only wins this contest but rolls in doing so. Although I am not debating Beterbiev scoring yet another finish, I am opting for the over 5.5 rounds because Yarde is a fresh, tough challenger who can take his fair amount of punishment even in a defeat. If Anthony starts the bout bum-rushing Beterbiev, it's a wrap in a similar fashion that Joe Smith had to find out and endure. But if not, look for Artur Beterbiev to score a late-round finish sometime inside the 10th round-up after looking like an absolute stud during the entirety of the allotted time.
