Doo Ho Choi vs. Kyle Nelson Prediction

Featherweights Doo Ho Choi and Kyle Nelson square off tonight in what should be one of the more exciting fights on the card in Las Vegas, Nevada. Both men love to bring the action, and this matchup should spark fireworks early on the main card. Choi is listed as the favorite at -180, with the comeback on Nelson listed at +155. However, I'm not worried about a side in this fight, but rather the total.

Doo Ho Choi, also known as "The Korean Superboy," is a South Korean fighter who made waves early on in the featherweight division. Choi entered the UFC as a top prospect and started 3-0 early in his tenure with three first-round finishes. However, he lost his next three fights and has been off for three years due to injury. He has a professional record of 14 wins and four losses with 11 knockouts and a submission. Choi is known for his aggressive and flashy striking style, which has earned him a reputation as a prospect that can climb the ladder in the division. All eight of his last eight wins came by knockout, and when he connects, the fight is over. Choi is a dynamic striker who possesses knockout power in both hands, and he will be looking to end his losing streak in this bout.

Kyle Nelson, a Canadian fighter, is a talented and well-rounded fighter who has been making a name for himself in the featherweight division. He has a professional record of 13 wins and five losses with nine total finishes: five by knockout and four by submission. Nelson, like Choi, is a dangerous fighter who possesses a solid striking game, as well as a grappling background. He is comfortable standing and on the ground, and he has the ability to finish fights with strikes or submissions. Nelson has not had an easy go in the UFC so far, going 1-4 with three losses by stoppage. His only win also came by first-round stoppage.

In terms of who will come out on top in this fight, it is a bit of a toss-up. On the one hand, Choi is the more dynamic striker, and his aggressive style has proven to be effective in the past. On the other hand, Nelson is a well-rounded fighter who is comfortable standing and on the ground, and he possesses the ability to finish fights in a variety of ways.

Choi will likely look to keep the fight standing and use his striking to finish Nelson. He will be aggressive from the start, looking to put pressure on Nelson and force him to make mistakes. Nelson, on the other hand, will likely look to neutralize Choi's striking-to-land shots of his own and maybe take the fight to the ground. If he can get it there, he is living for submission.

I can see paths to victory for both fighters here, so I'm not picking a side. Instead, I am backing the under. Both fighters possess one-punch power and can end it with one jab. Meanwhile, both also have holes in their defense that can be exposed by the other corner. Nelson's only victory in the octagon has come in the first round, and over half of his career wins have come in the first round overall. Choi is similar, as eight of his fourteen career wins have come in the first round, including all three UFC victories. Both fighters start very fast, fight aggressive, and have power, all the key components for an early finish. Take the under.
