WeBeatTheSpread's Premium Cody Garbrandt vs Trevin Jones UFC 285 Pick

The former bantamweight champion, Cody Garbrandt, will face Trevin Jones at UFC 285 to try and get back in the winning column. Although Garbrandt has a solid UFC record of 7-5, he is looking to rebound after losing four of his last six fights, with his chin being a concern as he has suffered four stoppage losses. Meanwhile, Jones enters the fight with a record of 1-3 in the UFC and takes this opportunity on short notice. However, he has shown in the past that he possesses heavy hands and can knock out opponents, as demonstrated by his lone UFC win. Garbrandt is a -170 favorite to rebound, but I'm not interested in either side in this fight.

Given the styles of both fighters, it is likely that this fight will end in under two rounds. Jones will be motivated to put it all on the line from the first touch of the gloves as he has less technical skill compared to Garbrandt, and stepping up on short notice may cause him to take risks in the fight. On the other hand, Garbrandt will also be looking for an early stoppage, as five of his seven UFC wins have come via stoppage.

Garbrandt previously held the bantamweight belt after a win over Dominick Cruz, but he lost it in 2017, and since then, his career has been in a downward spiral. Despite his recent losses, Garbrandt remains a dangerous fighter with immense power. He is an animal in the cage, and his striking is excellent, with a quick jab and a big right hook. Garbrandt’s movement is fluid, and he can manage range well using his left low calf kick, which is vicious. He can also sometimes blitzes forward heavily, which could be an issue against a counter striker like Jones.

Jones has heavy-hitting power, and when he lands, he lands hard. This makes him a dangerous opponent for Garbrandt, given his recent chin concerns. Jones' right hook is his favorite technique, and he is known for his counter-striking. He is also frustrated with the judges' decisions in his fights, which has motivated him to be more aggressive. However, his grappling ability is questionable, and he might be in trouble if Garbrandt manages to take him down.

Both fighters have immense power for bantamweights, and this fight could end with a knockout at any moment. However, Garbrandt’s chin has been tested multiple times recently, and he may have a glass chin at this point. If Jones can land a clean shot, he could end the fight early. Garbrandt tends to enter his opponent's range very quickly at times in a flurry of offense, and this could walk him right into a right hook from Jones, who excels at striking off his back foot.

This fight has all the makings of a quick finish. Garbrandt will be looking for an early stoppage to silence his critics and get his career back on track, while Jones will be motivated to seize the opportunity and prove that he belongs in the UFC. Given the circumstances, it is likely that this fight will end in under two rounds, with Jones taking more risks and Garbrandt hoping to land a clean shot to end the fight. Under 2.5 rounds is juiced quite a bit, so I'm grabbing the fight to not start round three at Bovada for -120.
